Curcumin help arteriovenous fistula maturation
Am J Med Case Rep.2020; 8 (10): 365-366. DOI: 10.12691/ajmcr-8-10-12
Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) often experiences disturbances in maturation, the trouble is mainly by the formation of blood clots in anastomotic wounds that block blood flow. Although, various drugs have tried to prevent and overcome the disorder. Curcumin has several advantages as antioxidant, antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic which applied for AVF maturation in diabetic end stage renal disease patients
Objective:

To assess the effect of curcumin on arteriovenous fistula maturation in diabetic end stage renal disease patients.

Methods:

The study was a case study in two patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, late-stage kidney failure. Both cases, supplemented with 2 gram of curcumin once a day for 8 weeks after surgery. Arteriovenous fistula maturation was assessed on the 4th week and the 8th week of follow-up.

Results:
  • Both cases were observed with good vein flow and vein diameter in 4th and 8th week follow-up. The wound healed with maturation without any complications
Conclusion

Curcumin C3 Complex® was effective in arteriovenous fistula maturation in diabetic end-stage renal disease.
